Apartment / Condo Dog Living With DogsUpdated a year ago

For many, an apartment or condo is a great place to live. One common question people ask is whether or not they can raise a pet in them. Luckily, the answer is yes! Whether you live in a highrise or are seeking to move into a building with multiple levels, this article is for you and will offer some tips and tricks for condo living with a dog.

Look for pet-friendly apartments

Prior to signing a lease, ask your landlord if the apartment allows pets. Some locations may have rules for pets and may even be as specific as outlining dog sizes. You will want to know this before you move, doubly so if you are bringing your pet with you.

Research the best dog breeds

Certain dogs are more suited to apartment life than others. Given the size and space of your apartment, you should research which breed is best for you. Kennel Clubs usually offer a list or a survey that you can take to match your lifestyle with the ideal breed best suited for you.

Seek out dog parks

Early into your stay, determine the best routes for walking your dog. Look for one that is safe from traffic and offers sufficient space to frolic. Nearby dog parks and fields can be great places to exercise and socialise your dog.

Keep your apartment dog-friendly

Within your home, ensure you have all the necessary supplies to raise your dog, such as food, toys, and bedding. If you live on the upper floors or will be pressed for time, consider potty training your dog to minimise accidents, with the Doggy Bathroom being a great litter box to check out. Traci shares her Doggy Bathroom experience…

“I live 40 floors up in the sky, so my pup is pee pad trained. Unfortunately his aim got worse as he got older and there were times where more would end up on the floor than on the pad. I tried a few things (a pee pad holder, a reusable pad to catch the spillover), but it still kept happening. I decided to give the Doggy Bathroom a try and it's life changing for a dog mom trying to protect her floors. We have had the Doggy Bathroom for 3 weeks and there haven't been any accidents outside the bathroom. The mat is brilliant - it helps to wipe his paws before he's even touched my floors.”

Whether you are renting an apartment or buying a condo, you can definitely turn your space into a nice, comfy environment for you and your pup. Before you know it, your pup will fall in love with their brand new home. Good luck and keep us posted!
